Privacy policy
Updated: October 2026
This policy describes what data the iDa app and website ("iDa", "we") collect, how it is used and what
rights you have. By using iDa, you agree to what is set out below.
What data we collect
- Sign-in data. You can sign in with a phone number (code by SMS), an email (code by email) or
with Apple or Google. Depending on the method, we receive your phone number or email, or
your ID in the chosen service and, if the service provides them, your first and last name, sex, date
of birth and profile photo.
- Profile. First and last name, sex, date of birth, photo and "about" text — what you entered
yourself or what came from the sign-in service. You can change all of it in the app.
- Location. The app sends your device's coordinates to show the map around you, find places,
events and people nearby, check you in at places you joined and send notifications. Your current
coordinates are stored on the server and erased if they have not been updated for a day. We also keep a
coarse location history — squares of about 100 meters with the time of the visit; it is used to build
an anonymous activity heat map that does not show who was where.
- Contacts. With your permission, the app uploads phone numbers and names from your address book
to find iDa users among them. Phone numbers are not shown to
other users.
- Content. Messages, photos and voice messages in chats; places, events and movements you create;
photos you add to places and events.
- Technical data. IP address, device and browser type when you open the iDa website and links;
phone number and IP address when you request an SMS code (to prevent abuse); device token for push
notifications.
Who can see your data
- Your profile (first and last name, sex, date of birth, photo, "about", interests, last visit time) is
visible to other users, and your name, photo and interests also on your public profile page on the
website. Your phone number, email and linked Apple and Google accounts are not visible to anyone.
- Your exact location is seen only by those you shared it with: chosen contacts, groups,
participants of movements you joined, and members of interest communities if you turned visibility on.
If you create a public movement, users nearby see your position.
- Check-ins. Participants of a place are notified that you are nearby, but your coordinates are
not shown to them.
- Public places, events and movements are visible to everyone, including on the website without
signing in.
We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Third-party services
- Apple, Google — signing in and loading your profile photo, only through the service you
chose.
- SMS Aero — sending SMS codes (phone number and code). Mailgun — sending email codes
(email and code).
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service — delivering notifications.
A new-message notification contains the sender's name and the message text.
- Google Maps — the map, place search and place details (coordinates and search query, no data
about you). KudaGo — importing places and events nearby (coordinates only).
- Sentry — collecting server errors; an error report may include your account ID.
- Telegram — an internal channel for the iDa team: it receives user reports and technical
notifications, which may contain account IDs and, if sending an SMS fails, a phone number.
- Yandex Metrica — visit statistics for the idamap.net website, including recording of on-page
actions (Webvisor). Not used in the app.
These services are governed by their own privacy policies.
Retention and deletion
- Messages in place, group and community chats and direct messages are deleted after a month. Event and
movement chats are deleted together with them: events one hour after they end, movements 12 hours
after they start. Notifications are kept for a month.
- Your profile, contacts and location history are kept while your account exists.
- You can delete your account in the app: More → Edit profile → Remove account. Before that, you need to
delete the places, events and movements you created. Deletion permanently removes your profile,
messages, contacts, location history and other data linked to the account.
- What remains after deletion: photos you added to other users' places and events (without authorship),
and records of SMS code requests and website visits.
Your rights
You can delete your account at any time, request a copy of your data or ask about how it is processed:
support@idamap.net.
